From the Principal

I assumed the position of Interim Principal here at St. Andrews Middle School on January 12, 2015, and look forward to a successful second semester. As I walk the halls and visit classrooms here at St. Andrews, I am pleased to see our students busy in a learning environment and engaged in constructive activities. It is evident that St. Andrews Middle School is academically oriented and a place where students are experiencing success.

This is the first year our students will be taking the ACT Aspire state assessment in English Language Arts and Mathematics (For Science and Social Studies, students will take the SCPASS). Unlike previous tests, this is a timed examination. Middle school students will have 30 minutes to complete their writing assignment, 60 minutes for Reading, 35 minutes for English, and 60 – 65 minutes for mathematics. The mathematics time varies according to grade. The data from this series of tests is designed to help educators monitor students’ academic growth over time. The teachers are diligently working to prepare our students for this major task. With the assistance of all stakeholders, students, parents, faculty, and staff, I am sure the St. Andrews Middle School students will excel.

I welcome parental involvement and participation. If for any reason parents or guardians need to see me, have a question or concern, please feel free to contact me at 803-731-8910.

Dr. Jake Sello, Interim Principal
