AVID at SAMS
Goals
The goals of Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) are to help students succeed in college preparatory courses and become leaders in a democratic society:

- Academic success: Students learn skills like note-taking, time management, organization, and study skills. They also participate in tutorial groups with peers and tutors.
- College readiness: Students learn about the college application and financial aid processes, and are encouraged to explore career opportunities.
- Academic challenge: Students are encouraged to take rigorous courses, such as AP or IB classes.
- Leadership: Students become responsible participants and leaders in the school community.
- College enrollment: Students increase their enrollment in four-year colleges and universities.
- Critical thinking: Students develop critical thinking skills and learn to ask probing questions.
- Academic focus: Students maintain academic focus and set academic goals.
- Organizational systems: Students develop organizational systems.
